A Date with a View

Yummy Dessert plate from The View dessert buffet
pks
We went to the The View at the Marriot Marquis and had their dessert buffet. I would definitely recommend this spot for a romantic date. First of all, it is NY’s only revolving restaurant. You take glass express elevators 48 stories above the city and once you get inside there is an outstanding view of the city. The floor of the lounge moves while you eat and it gives you a 360 degree turn of the city views every hour. Personally, I love big windows anyway and this spot has a wall of large windows all around the lounge. It looks like something out of a movie. There are candles on the tables and it is an impressive space.
We opted for their Dessert Buffet which was supposed to be $17.95 per person (according to their website) and this included unlimited dessert and cheese. The positives were that the desserts were delicious and were beautifully presented. There were pastries, cakes, pudding and a chocolate fountain with marshmallows and strawberries for fondue. They also had cheese and crackers. In that regard, it was heavenly, eating divine sweets together by candlelight with fantastic city views everywhere.
Here’s the catch: there were a few hidden costs. The website did not mention that there was a one drink minimum per person. So, I had a hot chocolate with baileys ($11) and my husband had a beer ($7). Also, on top of that they also charge a $7 view fee per person after 9PM (also not on their website so tack on an additional $14 per couple). So, by the end, we paid $30 per person for the dessert buffet with our 2 drinks (instead of the advertised $17.95 each).
Having said this, if you can afford $30 per person for the dessert buffet, it is a good amount of food for a set price, a great view, romantic ambiance and an impressive setting and it is probably cheaper than dinner somewhere nice in NYC. If you want a bit more food, their Dinner Buffet includes the dessert and cheese buffet that I just mentioned plus another buffet area that includes more salads, crudités and breads for $32.95 per person (plus that one drink minimum that I mentioned).
They say that a picture is worth a thousand words so I’ve included a few pictures of our yummy desserts in the slideshow below. Annoyingly, when I tried to take a picture of the amazing view there, nothing came out because of the glass. This may be because of my flash. So for the view pictures you’ll have to check out on their website.
I’ve also included some other links to reviews below. So do your homework but do check it out. If you go there at 8PM instead of after 9PM you’ll save yourself $14! On the other hand, if you had a great dinner date and want to go somewhere super late for dessert and a city lights view, The View (for buffets and cocktails) is open till midnight on weeknights and till 1:30 am on Fridays and Saturdays, and you don’t need reservations! So if your date is going really well and you don’t want it to end, check this out. I think it is a great place for love to blossom. Despite the bill discrepancy, my husband gave it 9 sexy stars (out of 10) so hopefully you’ll dig it too.
My Best in Love,
Paulette
