Breaking the Ice

Dear Dr. Paulette,

What is the best way to break the ice during an initial meeting? Even though there are many opportunities to meet men, I tend to get very nervous and prefer to walk away.

Thanks,
Gun Shy

Dear Gun Shy,
What you need is a little straight-shooting. Smile. Be yourself. Be open to what you may learn from someone instead of worrying about what to say. At worst, you will remain single. At best, you’ve made a friend or scored a date! Good topics are anything to do with the situation you are both in (books in the bookstore, the food at the party etc). If someone likes you they want a show of interest & warmth. They won’t judge your every word. So lighten up & show that you are fun, interested and authentic. Nature will do the rest!

My Best in Love,
Paulette.
